New Years Resolutions: Wardrobe Edition

New Years Resolutions: Wardrobe Edition

It's 2024, we don’t know where 2023 went, but here’s to 2024. Here’s to making it the year that best suits you and your happiness. This year we’re taking our needs more seriously. Let’s talk about what that means from the fashion side of things. Here are eight resolutions we are making this year all related to our wardrobe.

  • Every day is an Occasion. A lot like you, we have too many clothes in our closets that just sit there waiting for a special occasion. We have a goal to make every day special this year, even if we don’t leave our house. Clothes are meant to be worn, not hung in a closet.
  • Comfort First, Trends Second. To go along with our first resolution and make it happen we need to make sure we’re buying clothes that we will want to wear. Most days, for us moms are spent playing on the floor and chasing around kids. Knowing this helps us know what to buy. Normally, we would not going to buy stiff jeans that we wouldn't be able to sit down in. However, don’t get confused and think dressing comfortably means you have to sacrifice your style.
  • More Color and Dopamine Dressing.  Sometimes we only wear a couple colors. We catch ourselves reaching for black, charcoal, and dark charcoal. It is super flattering and easy to pair with most things. We've found that adding bold and bright colors makes us feel better. If you’re used to a neutral palette, give dopamine dressing a try it might make January that much better.
  • Choose Your Trends. With social media, it’s so easy to get sucked into fashion trends. It also feels like we’re going through trends much quicker than before. Due to this, we can fall victim to thinking we need something simply because it’s trending. When you buy something this year ask yourself “Do I like it or do I like it because everyone else does?”
  • Create a Fail-Safe Outfit Combination. Haven’t heard of an outfit formula, it’s something that will save you time when a fashion crisis hits. Figure out your one outfit combination that you know will always work. Pinpoint what makes you look good every single time you wear it and keep it at the back of your mind for those days when you have “nothing to wear.”
  • Invest in High-Quality Pieces. Think of the pieces you constantly have in your rotation, are they made to last? No? Then it’s time to invest a little more in the clothes we’re constantly wearing. Think of these as the foundation of your wardrobe, a flattering pair of jeans, the perfect white tee, or a little black dress depending on your lifestyle. When you have pieces you love, you need to ensure they’ll be around for a long time.
  • Organize Your Wardrobe. You don’t need to Marie Kondo your entire closet or go out and buy every organizing thing that’s trending on TikTok, but cleaning your closet and getting it organized will help you when you get ready for the day. When you can easily see everything in your closet it makes putting together an outfit so much faster.
  • Try Something New. See a trend online that you love but you’re nervous to try? Commit to trying something new this year, you may find a new outfit combination that you love or gain a new sense of confidence from trying something that might intimidate you. It could be wearing a color you don’t normally wear, trying a trendy accessory, or wearing something you rarely wear and seeing how you can make it work.

  • When it comes to making New Year’s resolutions it can be easy to get sucked into all the “challenging” ones, like working out more, keeping a cleaner house, the ones that require discipline but aren’t necessarily fun. That's why we like to make wardrobe resolutions, to help add something fun and creative into the mix. At My Sister’s Closet, you’re favorite plus-size dress boutique you’ll find everything you need to help you achieve these resolutions.
