How to Get Over the Holiday Blues

Is it just us or do you wish you could keep your holiday decorations up just a little bit longer than two months? (And only one month if you wait until December) There is always a weird feeling in the house at the beginning of the year that comes from thepurging unused items and the lack of a bright shiny tree in the living room. Needless to say, we’ve started to feel the doom and gloom that lurks around the endlessly long month of January. However, we don’t want to start the new year in a permanent funk, so here are some of our tips on getting over the holiday blues and starting the new year in a good head space.

  • Get Some New Decorations. After putting away my Christmas decor, my old decor just wasn't ‘bringing me joy’ as one might say. The new year is the perfect time to give your home a little update with some new decor. It's amazing what a freshly decorated space can do - even if it’s just updating the throw pillows on the couch or putting newer photos in picture frames. Getting new decorations gives your home a fresh feel that can help you have motivation to keep up with daily tasks and makes your home feel exciting to be in after all the holiday decorations have been stored away.
  • Get a New Outfit. We always recommend starting the new year with a massive closet clean out and donate everything that doesn’t fit or that doesn’t vibe with your personal style anymore. That means there is the perfect excuse to treat yourself to a new stunning outfit, and we’re talking the whole outfit:  top, bottom, shoes, and jewelry. Get yourself an outfit that makes you feel like a million bucks and that will make you look forward to getting up and getting dressed in the morning. Need some help figuring out what goes together? We’ve got an endless list of outfit ideas on our social media and our website - it’s our favorite thing to help style you!
  • Start a New Routine. There is something about winding down at the end of the day with a nightly routine that just helps you feel cared for and rested, so refreshing or starting a new routine can be just the thing you need to feel rejuvenated after the holidays. We recommend adding a new facial cleanser or trying out gua sha, hair oil, or whatever it is that you can look forward to doing to care for yourself a little sctra. If you need ideas on what to add or need an accessory like a fancy hair towel, check out our Pamper Me section. There are so many goodies to help you start a routine you look forward to doing.
  • Get Outside. Nothing brightens up your mood like a little Vitamin D. We know in Utah it’s so cold right now, but even with the cold weather, it’s always worth it to bundle up and go out for a little walk. Even if it’s just a quick 15 minutes, a change of scenery and fresh air will help you get out of any post-holiday funk!
  • Learn Something New. What’s something you keep saying you want to learn or accomplish? Stop putting it off and start doing it - the month of January is the perfect time to start working on those new hobbies because there isn’t any hustle and bustle with holidays or extended family coming to stay. Here are a few ideas if you need some:
    • Learn to Sew
    • Flip Furniture or Learn to DIY
    • Learn a New Language
    • Photography

These are just a few ideas, but if you’re feeling stuck or depressed get out of your head by starting a new hobby.

  • Do One Thing For Yourself. This is a big one, and probably the most important, but do something for yourself every single day. We find it’s easier to get done if you have it scheduled into your day. Do one thing that makes you happy, even if it’s just a drive to your favorite drink shop or simply getting dressed in an outfit you love. By making yourself a priority every day (even if it’s just for 10-20 minutes) you’ll feel refreshed and brand new for the new year!
