10 Ways to Prepare for the New Year

2021 is officially in the past! We can’t believe how fast everything went - it’s like we blinked and a whole year just flew by. However, we love the excitement the New Year brings - there are new opportunities waiting for us and a fresh start. Here are 10 ways we are preparing to make 2022 the best year yet. “If you fail to prepare then prepare to fail” -Benjamin Franklin

  • Review 2021 - Before you start focusing all your energy on 2022, think back to 2021 and review how the year went! Think about what you liked about the year, what moments you enjoyed, and what went well. Also consider what didn’t go well and what you would change or do differently in hindsight. You can also reflect on what you learned, what challenged you, and how you grew. Consider writing it all down in a journal so that you can outline all of the things you may be thinking about.
  • Set Goals. What do you want from 2022? Don’t just set goals because everyone is doing it. It’s important to set them in a way that’s going to best serve you. Maybe you set goals daily or weekly and take the year one step at a time rather than setting goals for the whole year. Maybe your goals are more about how you want to feel instead of what you want to do. However you choose to do it, just make sure you write them down so you can refer back to them regularly.
  • Clean Out Your Closet. Go through all your clothes and start fresh. If you see something you haven’t worn all year, it’s time to pass it along to someone else.It doesn’t need to take up space in your closet. The new year is the perfect time to do a deep clean of your closet, especially if one of your goals is to have a tidier home.
  • Plan Your Year. You have twelve months in a year - don’t let them pass you by. Plan out your year by getting a planner and writing down everyone’s birthdays, appointments, and important dates you want to remember. You can also pencil in your goals and their deadlines if they have them.
  • Make a Bucketlist. Like goals, only more fun! We can get so focused on what we want to change in the new year so it’s important to not forget to do the fun things too! Think about the places you might want to see or the new experiences you might want to try. What new foods or restaurants do you want to try? What hobby do you want to learn? Write them down so you have another list to refer to as you go throughout the year!
  • Assess Your Style. Shopping before you really know your style can be frustrating and slightly pointless. If you keep buying things that you never end up wearing, it’s time for you to assess your style. Once you know your style, it can help you buy things that you actually love and plan to wear.
  • Make a Gratitude List. While you’re reviewing your year, think of everything you’re grateful for. Recognizing what you’re grateful for is an easy way to improve your level of life satisfaction. Get in a habit of noting what you are grateful for and maybe even make it a goal to do gratitude practices more regularly during the new year!
  • Make a Budget or Savings Plan. Is money something you are constantly stressed or worried about? Change that in the New Year by figuring out what kind of budget will work for your family. Looking over finances can be stressful but it’s important to bite the bullet and get a plan set up so that you don’t have to be stressed about money for the rest of the year.
  • Make a Reading List. Plan to pick up a book a little more this year? There’s nothing more therapeutic and relaxing than a good book and a cozy blanket. We recommend looking through Reese’s Bookclub for recommendations and following some of your friends on goodreads!
  • Declutter. After you go through your closet, go through the rest of your house! Put away the holiday decorations and really look at the things in your space. Clean out your fridge of holiday leftovers and throw out any tupperware pieces that no longer have lids. Starting the new year with a clean, organized home will help you have the mental clarity to focus on the goals that you want to achieve in the new year!
